This
group of avid readers was formed in
April of 1999. They currently
boast 17 members who meet monthly
at various locations like members'
homes, restaurants, or
hotels. The members choose
their reading selection by
nominating books from different
genres and the ones with the most
votes are chosen in April for their
year-long syllabus. They have
several officers including
Treasurer, Chaplain, and
Contributing Editors for their
monthly newsletter. They have
a set of 5 written by-laws, pay
annual dues, and have fundraisers
throughout the year to offset
various costs they incur.
When
it comes to interacting with the
authors, they invite authors who
are in close proximity to their
location and are on their current
syllabus. To keep members
motivated they play games, go on
group outings, and have various
bonding exercises to get all the
members involved.

Two
of their favorite reads are
Shattered Souls by Dwayne Birch and
Child of God by Lolita Files.
An interesting note is that while
sometimes a book may rate high on
th eir scale, it does not always
garner a
good discussion.
5 Years of Sisterhood is
a unique accomplishment for this
book club. To celebrate they
hosted a reading/celebration with
seven authors, friends and
family. Members of the public
were able to mix and mingle with
some of their favorite authors and
meet others that they had yet to
discover. The turn out was
tremendous and could not have been
done without the work of all the
Imani Sisters.
