1.  What was your impression of Grace, Mary Nell & Eva's relationship as children?

3.  Why do you think Mary Nell was the first to marry?  Why do you think she chose Lou Henry?

4.  When did you first discover Lou Henry's intent toward Eva?  Do you think he really loved Mary Nell?  Do you think he could have been reformed?  Why or why not?

5.  What was your reaction of Mary Nell's denial of the rape?  Why do you suppose Eva didn't say anything to her parents when they returned from church?

6.  Do you think Eva's rape could have been prevented?  Who do you blame for it happening?

7.  Why do you think Grace was tormented by Ayo and those visions?  What triggered the visions and do you think they could ever be stopped?  How would you have dealt with them?

8.  What was your impression of Willow?  Do you think she had good intentions?  Do you think she could have helped the girls?  Why or why not?

9.  Do you think Eva loved Eddie Adam or Son Jackson more?  Was her marriage to Eddie Adam out of convenience?

10.  Could the sisters' relationship recover from the rape?  Mary Nell's stealing Jimmie?

11.  Why do you think Grace married George?  Did she ever love him?

12.  What was Grace really running from?  Do you think she found the peace she was seeking?  Could you understand her leaving her children behind?

This site is dedicated to the memory of my mother, Betty Jean and the spirit of my daughters, BriJea and Adia. Betty is my history, Jada & DeeDee are my future. They are a tremendous part of who I am. Mama taught me strength, BriJea brought me courage, and Adia taught me joy. I love you and thank you for such a tremendous legacy!
